World Interaction Design Day 2023

  • UPMC Enterprises 6425 Penn Avenue Pittsburgh, PA, 15206 United States (map)

About the Talk

Join IxDA Pittsburgh in celebrating World Interaction Design Day 2023! IxDD is an annual event where we come together as a united global community to show how interaction design improves the human condition. This year's theme is Ethics, Equity, and Responsibility. It encompasses areas such as ethics in design, designing for accessibility, inclusive and responsible design, and anti-capitalist design. It focuses on the need to consider the design's impact on society and to create work that is equitable and responsible, all in service of advancing IxDA's mission: improving the human condition by advancing the practice of Interaction Design.

We'll begin with a primer on how color accessibility addresses the use of colors in a way that makes the web accessible to all. Then, we'll explore how a new color space called OKLCH offers an intuitive and consistent way to create colors for the web, helping designers and developers create more accessible color palettes. You might even walk away from this talk with the itch to update your design system to enable your users to customize their own experience!

About Andrew

Andrew is a senior user experience designer at Expel. He is constantly trying to find interesting ways to mix his interest in people and how they interact with things with his analytical developer side. Working on bringing a brand new design system to life at Expel has given him a fantastic opportunity to do just that.

When he isn't totally geeking out on how to make the design and development process more inclusive, you can find him right here at IxDA Pittsburgh acting as Co-Chair for the chapter. Design community has been instrumental throughout his career. He's also spent time volunteering with UXPA Cleveland, Sacramento DESCO, and conferences like UXPA Boston Conference and IA Summit (now IA Conference).
