Clear the Air: UX vs PM

  • Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall 300 Beechwood Avenue Carnegie, PA, 15106 United States (map)

Product Managers shoulder the responsibility for their product’s success, as well as the brunt of the blame for product failures. It’s no wonder they often cling tightly to the reins when it comes to product vision, customer engagements, and decisions regarding features and functionality. User Experience Designers have a toolbox of methods that, when employed properly, can reduce risk and ensure that the product being built will meet customer needs. However, they often feel devalued or blocked by overprotective PMs. There is a lot of overlap in the perceived areas of ownership and responsibility between PMs and UX, but this doesn’t have to result in competition. PMs and UX should be close collaborators. Let’s clear the air and figure out how to best work together.

IxDA Pittsburgh and PMI Pittsburgh are collaborating to facilitate an open and frank discussion in which we can really dig into the issues PMs and UX experience in product development teams. We’ll hear from both sides, looking for common ground and empathy. We hope you’ll join us and invite your UX or PM counterpart to come along.

This event is free to attend, but space is limited, so please register now. While we typically manage registrations in Eventbrite, PMI is handling registration for this event on their website.
